The owners of the Beaver Brook Golf Course are seeking permission to put a campground of up to 50 sites on the property, a move that is generating opposition from some town residents. Metro Vancouver is planning to spend $40 million to create a new regional park that would bring overnight camping to Bowen Island. “It’s really, truly an amazing opportunity,” said John McEwen, chair of Metro Vancouver’s Regional Parks Committee, of the plan to purchase almost a square kilometer of land around Cape Roger Curtis at the island’s southwest tip. Bonner County commissioners tabled a decision July 26 to accept grant funding from the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation for an extension of the Bonner County Fairgrounds RV Campground, at the same time as Sheriff Daryl Wheeler and others have pushed against the expansion as an encroachment on county land better saved for a new justice facility. The Valley City Council’s vote on development of a controversial RV park along the Platte River has been delayed until August. The council’s vote was set for Tuesday, but it has been rescheduled for Aug. 9 at the request of the developer.
