Wildlife Prairie Park Planning Expansion That Will Include Campground and RV in Peoria, IL

Plan Your Adventure - Wildlife Prairie Park

Officials at Wildlife Prairie Park have announced a planned $1.5 million expansion project that will include a campground with room for 40 recreational vehicles.

25 News reports that the campground would be located on the west side of the park.

Each campsite will have concrete pads and individual hook-ups for water, sewer and electricity. Also, a new swimming beach is part of the plan.

There are also plans to renovate the exterior of the existing stone house built in the 1800s, and the Bison Hump Pump Track will be relocated.

Park officials say the park’s board has approved a financing plan that includes fundraising and borrowing money.

The Peoria County Board is expected to vote this week on whether to grant the nonprofit park a special use permit to build the RV campground. If approved, that will allow the park to seek state and federal approval and required permits.

The project is expected to be completed by March 2026.
