The Wilds Officially Opens a New Campground in Cumberland, OH

Exploring ‘The Wilds’ and its New ‘Hellbender’ Campground

If the warm weather wasn’t a sign that summer is on the horizon, perhaps The Wilds reopening will be.

Guests can explore The Wilds through the Open-Air Safari tour, the Wildside Safari tour or the Zipline Safari tour. The Fishing Safari experience, Horseback Safari sunset tour and birding at The Wilds offer a different perspective of the vast park.

New to The Wilds in 2025 is the 75-acre Hellbender RV Campground, opening May 30, offering 47 full-service RV sites, 26 primitive camping spots, hiking and biking trails, a playground, camp store, dog park and more.

The Hellbender, named after North America’s largest amphibian and an endangered species in Ohio, is a tribute to protecting natural waterways and local wildlife, according to a press release.

“The Wilds has always been a place where conservation and adventure come together, and we are incredibly excited to open the Hellbender RV Campground this season,” said The Wilds’ vice president, Dr. Joe Smith.

“This new experience will provide our guests with even more opportunities to connect with nature while celebrating a remarkable Ohio species whose resilience mirrors the mission of The Wilds. Whether you’re camping under the stars, exploring our pastures, or learning about our conservation work, there is truly something for everyone.”

The new campground is located at the intersection of state Route 146 and Zion Ridge Road not too far from The Wilds

According to the press release, the campground is expected to welcome 35,000 visitors annually.
