The Baldwin County Planning and Zoning Commission will consider a 58-lot subdivision near Foley and a 94-unit RV park near Gulf Shores on Thursday.
The two developments are the latest in a pattern of rapid development in south Baldwin County. In 2022, Foley was the second-fastest growing city in Alabama, with a 6.5% population increase; Gulf Shores was the seventh-fastest growing city in the state, with a 3% population increase the same year.
The Baldwin County Planning and Zoning Commission will consider Blueberry Fields, a proposed 58-lot subdivision planned along County Road 12 and Magnolia Springs Highway. The developer, Greg Kennedy, a former Gulf Shores city councilmember and member of the Board of Directors for Gulf Shores Utilities, is requesting preliminary plat approval for the subdivision.
Kennedy says that he hopes Blueberry Fields will help meet the needs of a growing Baldwin County. The subdivision site is in a really good location, he argues, with around 100 blueberry bushes on the property.
It sits in Planning District 21, down the street from the Hawthorn and Summercrest subdivisions, as well as some sod farms. Hawthorn residents previously told the Lede about flooding issues that have arisen on site.
