Clayton County Conservation will be celebrating the grand opening of the Osborne Campground early next month.
The newly constructed campground is located south of the animal exhibit at Osborne Park, which is about five miles south of Elkader.
Preliminary earthwork for the project began in November of 2023. Electric, water, and septic were installed in 2024. A shower/restroom facility was installed last summer, with final grading and seeding on the project site wrapped up last fall.
The new Osborne Campground has 20 campsites with electricity, water, fire pits and picnic tables.
There are also seven tent sites. The location of the new campground provides easy access to hiking trails, the Volga River, and the Osborne Nature Center and Outdoor Wildlife Exhibit.
The grand opening celebration will be held on Thursday, May 1st at 6 pm. After the ribbon cutting, stick around to enjoy hotdogs, smores, and beverages next to a campfire.
