Visitors to Chippewa National Forest will soon be able to reserve select campsites in advance at Mabel Lake Campground , located at 6715 Mabel Lake Road, 26 miles east of Walker on Highway 200.
Reservations for Mabel Lake Campground will go live on Recreation.gov beginning Jan. 27. The campground will join the other Chippewa National Forest campgrounds already on Recreation.gov and will be a mixture of reservable and first come, first served sites.
Forest visitors will now have the ability to plan ahead and know they will have a site to camp when they arrive at Mabel Lake Campground, improving their experience. Mabel Lake Campground consists of 21 sites, 10 will be reservable and 10 will remain first come, first served. One site is set aside for the campground host. Adding the campground to the reservation system allows forest visitors to check the availability of sites in real time and receive immediate confirmation of a reservation.
Visitors wishing to reserve a campsite for the 2025 season at Mabel Lake Campground will be able to do so by visiting Recreation.gov. Reservations will be available for applicable campsite stays through July 27, and then on a rolling six-month basis thereafter. Campsite reservations may fill quickly, visitors are encouraged to plan ahead.
Those wishing to make campground reservations will need to create an account on the Recreation.gov website prior to making campground reservations. Chippewa National Forest campgrounds which have previously been reservable, will also continue to be reservable at Recreation.gov
