Jefferson County Conservation opened its newest campground on July 1, known as Prairie Ridge Campground. The campground is just east of Jefferson County Park and accessible from Key Boulevard. It includes 14 stalls for campers, with electric, water and sewer hookups. Jefferson County Conservation Director Shawn Morrissey said this campground will not have a bathroom, since it’s designed for self-contained campers who have a bathroom onboard. After almost a year of renovation, the Green Bay Campground is set to reopen. Sandpoint Ranger District officials said sites at the popular campground will open for reservations starting at 7 a.m. Friday, July 25. The first reservations will begin Aug. 1, and the last reservation set for Sept. 27. Until then, all sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. After decades of decay and disrepair, the Tuolumne Meadows Campground is refurbished. Park rangers say it has seen very little maintenance in the last 60 years, and they couldn’t afford the necessary repairs. “Some of the campsites were on an angle, and there were clay pipes. A zoning change impacting 221 acres of county-owned property in Jefferson Proving Ground was approved by County Commissioners Thursday, to advance plans to develop a campground at Krueger Lake. Last year, our Southern Indiana Regional Development Authority awarded the county $3 million in Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) funding for the campground, which is anticipated to develop 55 RV hookups in the first phase, and approximately 184 when completed.
