Visitors to Chippewa National Forest will soon be able to reserve select campsites in advance at Mabel Lake Campground , located at 6715 Mabel Lake Road, 26 miles east of Walker on Highway 200. Reservations for Mabel Lake Campground will go live on Recreation.gov beginning Jan. 27. The campground will join the other Chippewa National Forest campgrounds already on Recreation.gov and will be a mixture of reservable and first come, first served sites. Townsend’s Board of Zoning appeals agreed a campground or RV park fits the neighboring land uses near the Talley Ho Inn, issuing a special exception to developers Thursday. Developer Brett Stewart has worked for months to garner approval for his proposed “upscale RV park” on the 5.2-acre property.
