Huron-Clinton Metroparks will host a ribbon-cutting celebration for the newly renovated Walnut Grove Campground at Lower Huron Metropark \u2014 one of only two public campgrounds in Wayne County and the only one located in a natural setting.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The campground also serves travelers along the National Huron River Water Trail and the statewide Iron Belle Trail, which both have direct access to the site. The redevelopment improves accessibility and expands inclusive outdoor recreation opportunities for all visitors.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The $1.3 million project was supported by $300,000 of grant funding through the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund, with matching funds provided by the Huron-Clinton Metroparks. The Land and Water Conservation Fund was established by Congress in 1964 to provide recreational opportunities for all Americans while protecting the nation\u2019s water and natural resources. The program is funded through revenues from federal offshore oil and gas leases. The funds are administered in Michigan by the state Department of Natural Resources.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Campground upgrades include:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The ribbon-cutting event is set for 11 a.m. Thursday, April 9, at Walnut Grove Campground, Lower Huron Metropark, 40151 E. Huron River Drive, Belleville. Guests will have the opportunity to tour the campground before its seasonal opening, and complimentary s\u2019mores will be available during the event.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n
