Magee Park in Port Aransas and Padre Balli Park on Padre Island, plans are in motion to double the number of RV and tent camping sites. Nueces County commissioners on Wednesday gave Coastal Parks Director Scott Cross the green light to send out bids for construction work tied to the project.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">We are going to basically double the size of the RV park with additional RV and tent camp parking sites, along with an open-air pavilion to serve the park itself, new roads, infrastructure, stuff like that. Same at Padre,\u201d Cross said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The funding comes from a $7.5 million RESTORE Act grant the county was awarded following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. But Cross said the process to access that money has been slow and frustrating.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">In my opinion, I\u2019m very grateful for the award, but it\u2019s a broken program. I wish they would\u2019ve just block-granted that money down to the state agency or to the county like they do in Florida,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Despite the delays, county leaders are relieved to see the project finally moving forward.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">It\u2019s going to bring additional revenue for the county, and it\u2019s not going to cost us anything because it\u2019s a grant,\u201d Commissioner Brent Chesney said. \u201cSo yeah, it\u2019s taken a long time.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Upgrades to both parks will include expanded RV spaces, updated utility connections, and improved beach access aimed at drawing in more visitors and encouraging longer stays.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">County officials say construction has to be completed by February of 2027.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kiiitv.com\/article\/news\/local\/rv-lovers-rejoice-huge-expansion-coming-to-nueces-county\/503-4150f689-6d20-49e6-a65e-353a2df49b03\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lato, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Source<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Beachfront camping is about to hit a whole new level.
