Oak Mountain State Park’s campgrounds will reopen this month after major renovations.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Some of the upgrades include new ADA Accessible tent and RV sites, along with updated bathhouses, a new dog park, an activity room and a playground.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Guests will also notice RV sites have been upgraded to 50 AMP service.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n It’s not just visitors who are excited about these changes, but employees too.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n David Johnson, a park administrator, said he’s been looking forward to this for more than two decades.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n “I’ve been here since 2000, I started out here as a park ranger and I remember patrolling through this campground and thinking, wow, it’s a great campground, but it could use some touch-ups, some renovating,” Johnson said. “And so here we are, 24 years later and we’re getting that done, so it’s been exciting to see that happen.”<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n These renovations are possible because of the general obligation bond that was voted in back in 2022.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n It gave Alabama’s State Parks $80 million.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n “A lot of the things we’ve done here are things that our customers have wanted over the years,” Johnson said. “They wanted new bathrooms here, you know, wider RV sites, some of them are made a little bit longer to accommodate the bigger RVs, so we listen to their wants and needs and we’ve delivered.”<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Two years to the day after the bond was voted in, the first guests will arrive at the newly upgraded campgrounds.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
