A multimillion-dollar adventure resort is coming to Norman, and the developers said the Oklahoma Sooners’ move to the Southeastern Conference played a role in their decision to build.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n By next summer, the heavy tree line along Classen Boulevard and Post Oak Road will become central Oklahoma’s first destination RV resort. The resort will also feature an aerial adventure park.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Developers said they are betting on SEC fans to set up camp.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThere really isn\u2019t many destination RV resorts that exist here. They exist on the coast but not here,’ said Kale Streeter, the director of investments for Wiggin Properties.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The plan is to provide upscale camping just three miles south of the University of Oklahoma. A $60 million RV resort and aerial adventure park will break ground in May.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s going to the first of its kind here in central Oklahoma,” Streeter said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n On Tuesday, Norman City Council approved the 151-acre development for Liberty Point. The resort will feature ziplines, a ropes course, mini golf, fishing docks, trails and more than 500 RV and cabin sites.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe property is just gorgeous,” Streeter said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The representative of the development company said they chose Norman because of OU’s impending move to the SEC.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe thought about how OU is joining the SEC and all the people coming into town for games. We thought that we could provide a service that doesn\u2019t exist. We plan to have shuttle service to and from the games,” Streeter said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Norman City Councilman Matt Peacock is an architect on the project. On Thursday, he told KOCO the development will bring added money to the city as SEC fans travel to Norman for the games.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n “The existing site is beautiful and I want to applaud the developer’s commitment to protecting this aspect of the property. This project will bring increased sales tax revenues to our city, and will be an attractive location for SEC travelers visiting Norman as well as Norman residents looking for a nature-based activity.” Peacock said in a statement.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
