The Monroe County Board of Commissioners has unanimously approved updated regulations for recreational vehicle (RV) parks within the county’s new Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The changes establish several minimum standards that existing and future RV parks must meet. Parks will need to be at least 25 acres, have 10 or more RV sites, provide proper utility hookups, have graveled or paved driveways, and designate RV spaces.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Park owners will also be required to pay an annual $250 fee per RV site to the county starting in 2024. This will help offset the cost of county services for residents. Previously operating parks under 25 acres can request a variance.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The updates aim to ensure quality infrastructure and maintenance at RV parks, while also creating a new revenue stream to account for the impacts of RV residents.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

During the discussion, commissioners weighed different fee structures before landing on the flat $250 rate. Some had suggested lower fees or exempting short-term guests.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In public comments, the owner of a local RV park thanked officials for establishing clear standards but requested a lower fee. The initially proposed $500 fee was reduced in the final approval.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

County leaders say the regulations will provide consistency and give RV park owners criteria to follow. After reviewing the policy’s impacts next year, they can revisit the details if needed.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
